It has been many years since I have watched T/Fuel competition but I check in from time to time to see how things look and I really enjoy the Pro Stock races but the 1000' nonsense just leaves me numb. I believe that the competitors and NHRA have bet everything on viewers being too titillated and dazzled by the sound and smoke to notice that the racing has become a farce of what it once was. And now fuel cars oversea's have adopted the 1000' as a standard. When was the last time that you saw a driver have to peddle the car to win at the top end? Or Just see a driver on a top end charge to drive around the competition? Now it has become a show all about the launch and clutch setup. It is the equivalent of F1 addressing "safety" with a half dozen chicanes at every circuit after Senna's death, or if NASCAR had implemented a permanent restrictor plate rule for all races after Dale Earnhardt was killed. All in the name of "safety" with the caveat that it is just too difficult or expensive to make the necessary changes.
The ideas that have been put out there that would "fix" Top Fuel and Funny Car are varied and numerous. From a slight width increase of the chassis and the front wheels and tires to facilitate front brakes, to reducing power by limiting nitro fuel, limiting supercharger size, etc., etc., etc. The point being... WTF NHRA? Have you all drunk the cool-aid and forgotten what real competition looks like? I feel like I am watching a slow death in the fuel category. When will you guys remember that it is about the competition? This continued inaction is doing a disservice to the Nitro burning cars. I can't be the only one that see's this, we need to tell NHRA enough already!
Agreed 100%.
This knee'jerk reaction to try to show everyone that they "fixed" the problem to keep a couple outdated/historic (take your pick) strips on the schedule does NOTHING to improve the safety, and penalizes the fans that go to the modern, safe 1/4 mile strips.
From this duct tape quik-fix to allowing nitro in the alcohol ranks (ruining the banshee wail of the true alcohol cars) to ruining the diversity in Pro Mod, Wally Parks must be rolling in his grave.
