I feel bad for Despain, who is inarguably one of the most knowledgeable motorsports journalists in the US media. The overlords at Fox have been trying to kill anything on Speed that's even remotely stimulating or (god forbid) controversial, so an independent thinker like Despain clearly doesn't fit their future plans. I'm sure the only reason he hasn't packed his bags and left this sinking ship is that he's locked into a long-term contract. We can only hope that he lands on his feet somewhere like Velocity, NBC Sports or BEInSport.
LOL. I tuned in for this weekends show. At one point in the past Dave was actually opining on Formula One, remember that? During Debrief they would cut away to Dave and he would do a little op ed piece. As if he really cared.
Now F1 gets a tiny mention and is grouped in with the highlights of WoO and or Monster Trucks.
F1 continues to be a problem for guys like Dave Despain and Robin Miller. It's the top motorsport in the world and all motorsports magazine shows should headline it...so essentially what I'm saying is all the coverage in the past and discussion of it has been because Speed had the F1 contract, now that its gone; you can see just how disingenuous all of that was...of course we all saw through it back then but now its out there on front street...makes you wonder does all of North Carolina love to hate on F1? LOL
