    Guard Rails for Drag Strips

    Hi.
I was watching some drag raging the other day. They got about half way down the track and one car got sideways and took out the other guy in his lane. The cars were both wrecked. I had a girlfriend that was ran off the freeway in Idaho. She crossed the median and was killed by oncoming traffic. The HWY department soon put up concrete dividers along that stretch of FWY. Seems to me the NHRA could put concrete dividers up on drag strips pretty easy. With AA top fuel cars going over 300 mph there is a pretty good chance people are going to have some pretty bad wrecks. Anyway it's just a thought. I know I want to live to race another day. Thanks.

That would guarantee that anytime a car came to the centreline, it would wreck on the divider. It's true that every once in a while a car crosses the line and hits another car, but the vast majority of times a car crossese the centreline, there isn't any collision. And crossing the centreline is an automatic disqualification.

Bruton Smith's 4-lane track at Charlotte has a divider, I think, but only between the second and third lanes.

Both cars are going the same direction in a drag race compared to a highway divider keeping traffic traveling in opposite directions protected.
