FOX is converting the SPEED Channel into a regular sports channel. This means the SPEED.com website is basically a dead man walking and the Motorsports forums are as well. It appears our long love/hate relationship with these boards has run its course.
Several of the long term posters at SPEED.com have come together and looked at our options. NBC Sports’ message boards are a joke so we decided instead of being at their mercy we would establish an independent forum to continue where the SPEED boards left off.
We have named it Motorsports Mayhem.

We have done this at no personal gain for ourselves. No one is making a dime off this site. All the revenue from the ads you will see is going to the forum hosting company Zetaboards.
The Moderation of the boards will be very hands off.

NBC Sports has done a good job with other sports I watch. They'd done things a little different too so it'll be interesting to see what the come up with. I'm confident we'll be happy with the product. No doubt, they'll be able to spend more money than Speed gave the F1 team. Hopefully, that means we may get even more than the mostly World Feed pictures Speed provided.
I share some of the sentiment expressed by _MidKnight_ I have often felt F1 gets short shrift on Speed Channel. Simple math of the amount of hours of coverage shows that Speed does/did not have a committment to increasing the exposure of F1 in America. Honestly, 10's of hours of Nascar coverage for a single hour of track action, its a bit embarrasing. That said, I also understand the Speed is a commercial concern and must produce products that THEIR audience demands, and their audience demands NASCAR, and every single minute of Classic Car auctions though I still dont understand why.
This said, I do not share this opinion of the Speed F1 Broadcast team. I feel they have a true love of the sport, are knowledgable, and articulate. Sam Posey's perspective has made me physically cry on one occasion. From his airtime during the Brasil GP, it seems he is in poor health, I hope he recovers.
As we look to the future, I hope we do not repeat the mistakes of Fox with regards to commentation. Some viewers will remember a few years ago when the "local" races (Canada, US, and one other) were broadcast on Fox without the usual team. Those poor shmucks made a mockery of their task, they had no knowledge, simply describing what was presented on the screen, seemed not to be using Timing & Scoring data, were too ill informed to speculate, and generally screwed it up. I am pleased that David, Will and Steve will be there to keep the new anchorman honest, I only hope Bob's replacement knows how big the shoes are to be filled and takes this seriously
if your looking for a new F1 home, I offer f1fanatic.co.uk It is VERY "euro" but there is a small hardcore group of US people there. The data presented by the owner is SECOND TO NONE, and the forums are entertaining and insightful.
I am hearing some good reports about how NBC Sports is already promoting F1. I haven't seen any myself, but I also haven't been looking for it and can't say I watch anything on that channel right now.
I too am going to miss Bob; he has a great deal of knowledge and is passionate about the sport.
With all of the faults that SPEED had on their coverage and/or lack of F1 coverage, I'm more concerned that NBCSN won't take the sport seriously enough. From what I've read, F1 is going to play second fiddle to IndyCar on NBCSN. I really hope that this isn't the case.
The only thing I see here is that, FOM (Bernie) had a 2nd-class citizen mentality for coverage of "his" precious F1 racing with Speed. Do not get me wrong, he was not going to turn them away, but he wanted a few more bucks, and could see the writing on the wall, Speed was just not interested in continuing, because FOX was not interested. FOX wants more NASCAR. Because of the contract, FOX is required to air the number of races on over-the-air-TV, something they particularly did not want to do. It was nice, but they were not really serious to continue. As for NBC, yes they are a slightly larger media outlet, however, they only wanted F1 to fill out their cable NBCSports network, as they are trying to compete with ESPN. F1 in the US is on the back burner for the big networks, because it cannot be shown live in prime time, or in the early afternoon, it has a live showing time of 7am Eastern or earlier on Sunday or Saturday. I do hope that the product will not pushed back like at speed, however, one can only hope.
I think also, the reason that Bob did not go to NBC, is that that he does other things with Speed, such as Barrett-Jackson auctions, and other things for speed. Either that or he asked for more money, and NBC said, thanks, but no thanks, LOL.
