Having the manufacturers directly pay for everything would be pretty much the definition of the series whoring itself out to them, so I can imagine potential downsides assuming the series really...

Would it really be better to kick ALMS teams out of the race or have Sebring entirely off the ALMS schedule? There's no way any team entered in the WEC would be turned away from an official WEC...

All the other live races are on ESPN2, not ABC. IIRC, the original announcement did exclude Mid-Ohio from the ESPN3.com coverage.

This race is not on ESPN3.com because it's live on ABC. Alms.com supposedly has some live stream, but they only have capacity for five concurrent viewers, apparently. :p

Last year the pole at Mid-Ohio for DP was 1:16.504.

Edit: And for the math-impared, 1:16.504 is faster than the ALMS GT pole time of 1:20.539 last year as well.
